MEET THE EXPERT #9: Team Dynamics in International Teams

SPEAKER'S BIO:

We will take a Systems view of international teams and their internal dynamics. Our conversation will explore how complex teams go through cycles of “flow” and “freeze”. We’ll look at the virtuous and vicious systems’ cycles that occur within teams. While diversity of all types in a team can result in greater creativity and innovation it also presents challenges to sustaining a balance of productivity and innovation. We’ll look at current research and share our experiences of working with complex teams and the best practices that re-ignite  “stuck” teams.

Marilyn recently returned to the United States after working as a management consultant in France and Belgium for 20 years. She was part of large global and academically associated consultancies, and was co-director at a small French consultancy. She taught Leadership Development at two French MBA Entrepreneurial Studies programs.

During this time Marilyn was coaching executives and practicing workplace/team mediation.Since returning to the US she has consulted with entrepreneurial teams in the public and private sectors.

Marilyn currently serves on the Advisory Board, Tufts Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership where she coaches undergraduate and graduate teams and judges competitions there as well as at other International entrepreneurial competitions.

International Consulting Experience

Marilyn's international consulting assignments ranged from a two-year, on-site process re-engineering initiative with a large European Union–linked organization with 35 different nationalities to large enterprise resource planning projects with a Belgian utility company and a French/American oil company.

While working with a large consultancy, she introduced organizational learning both internally and throughout Europe and the U.K. She delivered presentations for executive seminars coached junior consultants and did systems diagnosis for client situations (example, a banking merger).

During this time Marilyn was consistently coaching high-level executives and doing practicing workplace/team mediation and team capacity building
