Where Capital Meets Science and How Rounds Get Built Today

Family offices are significant participants in private markets, yet for many biopharma founders, they remain among the least understood and least accessible sources of capital. Their structures, mandates, and investment processes vary widely, and access is often relationship-driven rather than organized around standardized public pitch channels.

At the same time, their interest in life sciences is substantial. In the North America Family Office Report 2025, 69% of surveyed North American family offices report exposure to healthcare, 59% to biotech, and 56% to biopharma. Family offices also frequently invest alongside other investors, making them an important component of many private financing rounds: 69% of their investments in H1 2025 were structured as “club deals” rather than investments made alone.

Presented by the FABS, FACCNE's Life Sciences Business Forum, this FACCNE webinar brings together a carefully selected panel: a single-family-office investor, a multi-family-office executive, and a biopharma entrepreneur who secured significant family-office backing, to discuss how the ecosystem works in practice: who invests, what they look for, how rounds get built, and how founders can access the right relationships.

Participants will leave with a perspective on:
- What family offices are, how they are structured and why they can differ substantially from one another;
- What drives their investment decisions in biopharma and the broader life sciences sector;
- Where family offices can fit into financing rounds and how those rounds get built;
- Practical strategies for finding, approaching and pitching family offices; and
- What founders should expect after a family office invests, including governance, communication and follow-on decisions.

  • Everett Kamin, Investment Director, Gemini Capital Partners
  • Jim Shanahan, Co-Founder and Business Lead, SynDevRx
